item is the pioneer in building kit systems for industrial applications and a global market leader. It has been designing and marketing construction solutions for machinery, fixtures and plants since 1976. Today, the item product portfolio comprises more than 4,500 high-quality components designed for use in machine bases, work benches, automation solutions and lean production applications.

Our founders

item was established in 1976 by two young and ambitious engineers, Gerrit Pies and Wolfgang Rixen. To begin with, the startup company focussed on designing, building and marketing specialist machinery.

The highly specialised, cost-effective and high-performance machinery from item offered ingenious solutions for complex requirements.

item China is a subsidiary of item Industrietechnik GmbH in Solingen, Germany, and supplies thousands of products to customers in Asia.

In addition to the famous item MB Building Kit System, the Lean Production Building Kit System, dynamic linear technology and the TPS Stairway/Platform System, the company also offers numerous solutions for lean production, automation, ergonomic facilities and mechanical engineering.

item products are used in a wide range of applications such as machine frames, industrial production lines, conveyor lines, small automated systems, non-standard mechanical and electrical equipment, industrial testing, security systems, electronics and auto parts assembly lines, medical and food equipment, cleaning equipment and many more besides.

Our headquarters

Over 40 years ago, the two founders Wolfgang Rixen and Gerrit Pies laid the foundations for our company in the rooms of a former launderette in Solingen.

Today, Solingen is home to our new European headquarters, which opened in 2016. At this site alone, which covers an area of 67,500 square metres, more than 200 members of staff work hard to ensure our international business partners and customers always receive their goods on time.
